The Most Difficult Moments of Your Life are The Most Inspiring Parts of Your Story

The Most Difficult Moments of Your Life are The Most Inspiring Parts of Your Story

December 30, 2018

As a writer, I've written stories about a lot of people. You know the ones that are the hardest to write about?

People with no conflict in their lives.

No challenges.

No obstacles.

No frustrations.

No failures.

No setbacks.

No struggles.

No heartaches.

No pain.

Simply put: easy lives make boring stories. Leisurely lives never produce legends.

People who live care-free are people no one cares about.

On the other hand, a life of struggle makes a scintillating story.

Because the storyline includes:

Challenge...and triumph.

Obstacles...and overcoming.

Frustration...and a fight.

Failures...and fulfillment.

Setbacks...and a comeback.

Struggles...and strength.

Heartaches...and heroism.

Pain...and passion.

Bottom line: tough experiences become epic tales.

People who get knocked around become people of renown.

So count of this...

Bank on it.

Believe it with all your heart.

And let it galvanize your heart and mind and will as you endure the worst the world has to offer:

THE MOST DIFFICULT MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE WILL BECOME THE MOST INSPIRING PARTS OF YOUR STORY.

You ever heard of the song “Binary Sunset?” It’s the song that plays in the background during the scene in the original Star Wars movie when Luke Skywalker really, really wants to go to the Academy and live a life of adventure…but realizes that he’s got to stay home and help his uncle work the farm.

It’s a dramatic song.  A melancholy song.  A song that is meant to convey two main emotions:  disappointment and depression. And as the song plays, the scene unfolds with Luke looking out over the horizon watching not one, but two suns going down (Binary Sunset!) and the look on his face says it all:

“My hopes are dashed.  My dreams are in the toilet. I. Am. Screwed."

HATERS focus on style. They evaluate you based on their preferences. They are trying to get you to become them. So their input is worthless. Ignore it. HELPERS focus on substance. They evaluate you based on objective standards of excellence. They are trying to get you to become the best YOU. So their insight is invaluable. Embrace it.
